Post subject:  Carby Inlet / Air Filter Mounts
I got hold of a set of twin 1 1/4 inch SU's today which I plan on refurbishing as a project and to use on my Mini K. I have noted that the two "posts" which usually have the threaded ends for the wingnuts to hold the airfilter assy on have been cut off.

Is it possible to replace these posts? I have made a small attempt to unscrew them but didn't want to bust something so I thought I'd ask on here. If they are not removeable I'll have to try to find some replacements.

I am also interested to know what airfilter assembly this is. I have read lots about MK 1 Vs Mk 2 and the ridiculous prices people will pay for them and wanted to know what I have stumbled onto.

Are there any ID tags on the carbs? Not sure about the air filter, it looks EsSey...? I be inclined to run a sports air filter assy anyways, so that throat section with the threaded shaft would not be used anyways.

Tim - as Hanra said, if you post what's engraved on each of the float bowl tags I can tell you what car the carby's came from. I'm not an expert on air cleaners, sorry.

The float bowl tags have: AUD104L and AUD104R stamped into them.

According to the SU Midel Catalogue they are from a 998cc Cooper MK 1 and 2, 1964/9. Be aware that you may have to change the needles and springs.

Thanks for the info...

My original plan was to get a HIF44 for the car (Has a 1275 in it) but as these carbs became avail at the right price I decided to use them. The more research I do the more I think my original plan may be the way to go.

The carbs are of a 997 Cooper by the look of the inlet manifold. The air cleaner is the genuine Mk 1 item but it has had the intake pipe cut of it at the bottom. The 2 air rams have had the threads cut of them for who knows why, you will need to either find two twin carb replacment air rams or make some out of std 1/4 air rams. You will also need to purchase the 2 tube nuts that hold the filter on.

I'd say the studs have been cut off because someone has used 2 plain pancake sports filters (as used on old Holdens etc).
Used to be common back in the 60s, when I was a lad.
Yes they can be fixed, get someone to TIG (preferably) or MIG weld 2 cut bolt threads of the right length on there. 5 mins work. :wink:
