Hello All, We have just fiited a new boot seal the type that fixes to the boot lid, but now it is impossible to close the boot, any tips...please.

I had the same problem, got another seal (as some are a thicker seal), both were the same & correct.
I had to adjust the lock a bit, & used a second person to help close it the first time, then left it for a couple of days to settle in. Now still firm pressure to close.

Get a rubber from Minisport in SA. Theirs work properly. 2 others I bought here in Sydney didn't.
I think Mini King has good ones now too.

[edit] I didn't bother with all the stupid clips (another part where some don't fit, so I tossed them)- I used contact adhesive instead.

As the others have said, throw it to the crap house. I had the same problem with mine and good luck trying to get out without breaking the 400 odd clips that cost a fortune each! I ended up fitting a UK book seal to mine as they fit to the body of the car and not the boot lid, no clips and no fuss. Mini King have these as well.

Try "SCOTTS OLD AUTO RUBBER" in melbourne. Check their website and find out which type suits your model. There are differences with early cars and later cars. All their rubbers are made from some of the original molding machines that used to be owned by" Thyer rubber"
They have a interesting range of all sorts of trims bits and pieces for minis and price wise they are good.

The trouble with these local boot rubbers is twofold.
1. The local sponge is denser (less holes) than the UK stuff.
2. The local sponge is moulded with a smaller hole in it.

Minisport and Mini King get theirs from UK. It is similar to the original stuff.

I have dealt with scotts for years and every time I have got a rubber seal for any car including all the FJ's and EH's holdens my daughter has restored the rubbers have fitted perfectly.
The minis that I have worked on there has never been a problem with the seals even the rubbers and bottom seals for the sliding windows. Their seals for the rear quarter windows are the only ones I have found that actually seal and you do not have to pull on the latches to get them closed.
As for quality, the first EH my daughter did is now 12 years since resto and the rubbers are as good as the day they went in

David, afaik there is only 1 company moulding these rubbers here now, S******* R*****.
I agree all the other rubbers fit but the boot seals are a PITA.
