I was perusing another forum and I seen this......

It would be an interesting challenge to fit carbies to it......of course the
lower holes would need plugging.

Now you can all see why 8 and 7 port heads were made for Minis...

Thats quite a nice inlet angle, no steep curves or right angles. Just a nice flow.

Not as good compared to a 7/8.

Doug Trengove did a head similar for one of his cicada clubman cars he built in the late 60's. The eng was a 1275 sprite and when he cut the head out he angled the new ports down to blend half way into th existing ports. He opened the whole port out and where it broke into the water jacket he welde a piece in to re-seal.
The new port had a spliter welded in and then shaped outwards to form a dual port. That way he ended up with 4 inlet ports with twin webers.
A lot of stuffing around but it worked well. I know he did a couple more and his son colin ran one on his mini he raced. They worked but a lot of effort to make.

Manx (on the Isle of Man) used to do a 4 inlet port conversion (split ports) on 1275 heads, but the ports were still horizontal. Twin Webers were used.
However there wasn't room to make the ports a decent size.

Manx just ground out around the push rod holes and squared it up. The ports in the head don't have spliters to separate the inlets.
When Doug did his he cut the port out into the water jacket and fitted tubes for the push rods with a full spliter plate. a lot of stuffing around ,but in the 60's he did not have 16 v/v twincams cheap and available. Ardern's were around but cost as much as you could buy a car.
