Who is the heat treater... is it in WA or elsewhere? I'm tossing up whether to tuftride my 84.3mm stroker crank, after I wedge it.. I've heard good and bad reports on the process. Jury is still out..

On a 1275 crank, the counterweights are not really heavy enough for a good balance factor (OK there's another question.. for next time.  )
Rather than weld 'em up to increase weight (not a great idea with most cranks) material (ie weight) is removed from the crankwebs, most on the side nearest the crankpin. This makes them look tapered, narrower at the crankpin side. So, relatively heavier at the counterweight opposite. It also reduces rotating weight of the crank, raising its fundamental resonany frequency so less likely to crack (supposedly). And it will spin up faster.... It's all good. And I own a milling machine...

Drmini you can have your crank nitrided. I have all of my race engine cranks either long or short stroke nitrided in sydney. But you will need to balance it first. |

Can you nitride EN16 cranks (12G1505)? My S cranks (EN40B) are, but I was told (not on here) that nitriding won't work with EN16... 
Yes, I would balance it first, after I wedge it.

1) thanks doc, i understood all of it 2) is nitriding diffusing Nitrogen into the metal (like Case Hardening) byt heating up and pumping with Nitrogen gas? (that was my stab) |

No problem. My crank was stroked by Spiro, at St George Crankshafts, maybe related..
he's just around the corner where I work..
