I have a tiny one from a Daihatsu Charade.. Nippon Denso. I think it does 45A. There's heaps of info on here about various conversions if you search for alternator conversion The Charade ND one just requires cutting about 5 mm off one of the mounting plates to bring it in line witht the crank pulley. |

Pretty sure the standard rover one has a good output about 75 amps from memory. That should be fine for most stuff. If you think you need more than that, you'd be better off going 24 volt (PITA). |

Is making everything smaller worth the effort? Sounds like you're on an overly ambitious misson to have a smaller starter motor, AC compressor and and alternator given they arent that bad to start with. ![]() |

so where can i get smaller items. off small cars, such as Daihatsu charades. There is a whole thread on replacing standard alternator with a charade one of here. very easy to do. You really won't get much smaller than that. |

Post subject: | Alternator Capacity needed |
To work out what capacity Alternator your car needs :- Add up all the Watts that you are likely to use at the same time like Sound system High beam and Driving lights parkers tail lights Dash lights These are all calculated in Watts. Devide the total of watts by 12 and that gives you the AMPS being consumed. To that you will need to add about 15% to give you the total Amps your Alternator needs to be capable of producing. EXAMPLE:- (this is just an example different cars have different demands) Park, Tail, No Plate, Dash lamps 40W Stop lights 42W Indicator (One side) 42 W Headlights Hi beam 120W Driving Lamps (2) @100w ea 200W Sound system (Approx) 100W Heater Blower Fan 80W TOTAL WATTAGE = 624 Watts Devide by the Voltage of the system 12 volts Equals Amps required to run all above together = 52 Amps To that total add 15% to allow for some charge to reach the battery to keep it topped up =7.8 Amps Total required output capacity from Alternator. 52 + 7.8 = 59.8 AMPS. The more accessories you add the Higher the Alternator output needs to be and you do not want an Alternator that is working at it's maximum all the time as it will burn out prematurely. |
