On the back of the other paint question I thought I would ask you guys that have repainted your minis. Out of all the millions of paint colours in the world, how did you decide what colour you would paint you car? Cheers Rohan |

Hey Rohan My way of thinking is you have 2 routes to go down. The first is an original colour, simply look at what the car could have come with and pick one you like. The second is when you see a colour you like find out what it is. This could be driving around, at a car show etc. I don't think I would ever stand in a paint shop and pick a colour from the paint chips. Steve |

I have a suggestion for the moderators but could we possibly have a sticky or a section that we can all post photos of cars that are genuine bmc/leyland colours. As there are no colour swatches available it would make a great resource for just such a question. It has to be one of the most asked questions on here. G. |

Best way is to ask your wife/partner what colour she wants it and then if you think the Mini would look Cool that colour just do it. Then she will not be able to come and say that she does not like the colour you chose ! The colour on MINNIE was chosen by my other half and I think she did well. it is a Hyundai Colour called Hip Hop Red. I like it. |

Couldn't agree more... if the other half thinks its a good idea / gets excited about it.... its not so hard to pass other purchases  like disc brakes... and a big block... and and and...

Its funny how your perceptions change with age. Teenagers and young adults want their cars to be bright and stand out from the crowd. With some makes and models its a feature the police really appreciate. When you reach your forties you want more modern colours but not necessarily the police attracting stand out colours. Then as you reach middle age you think that the standard original colours are really what the car should be painted in - they way it came off the factory floor but with better body preparation and better paint quality. There is something iin doing it better than the factory. Mike |

If you ever sell the car it will appeal to a wider market if it is the original colour. If you are doing it up to keep and enjoy then go with what you like best. There's lots of piccies on the web for inspiration. Pete |

Cheers guys, I wasn't so asking how I should choose, but more how you decided. The original colour of mine was 'sunset red' to my knowledge I haven't actually seen a mini in that colour, so I have no idea what it looks like. But from what I can see it has also been painted white, yellow and now (from the po) it is some blend of racing green with a white roof. I have always been a fan of the BRG on minis. Since I have had the mini, I have wanted to do a resto on it, and have always had the colour/s picked out, I have since changed my mind several times, but I'm starting to think I will go back to my original colour choice & away from the racer/caged car I was considering. I won't say the colour combo until it's done (incase I change my mind again, but I doubt it) but I can say that the colour is 1 that I have loved from the 1st time I saw it 10yrs ago and everytime I see it on a car now, I still get the same feeling for the colour. I agree with Mike, speaking as a silly old bugger. Original colours are best IMO, but one you need to get enjoyment from. For example, kelp beige is an original colour, but who wants to drive a car painted in "baby sh!t brown" ? |

I wish P/O had not of painted it, and left it in the acrylic Oh Fudge brown, I'm considering repainting to in acrylic Oh Fudge when i get the funds. |

i chose my colour mainly cause i wanted something that would REALLY stand out  . there will be no mistaking its me, when i finally get to cruise this town  !
I had it painted over 10 years ago in a metallic blue, and after looking at it for ten years in the yard, it got boring to me:lol: ! I knew i wanted a 'metallic purple' but then i found out just how many metallic purples there were! My mini-men that did my mini, mixed up a few and came up with what i have now. In an ideal world  , i'd have 2 (or more!) mini's, so that one would/could be as original as it can be, and the other would be what i have now!

In short - google! I had a colour in mind, but wasn't sure what shade exactly. I kept an eye out around town for cars of the same general colour - some were good, some were ordinary. Started googling one day, added a couple of adjectives into the search and - shazam! - the exact phrase I used turned out to be the name of a factory paint colour used on a different marque some years ago. And it looks the goods. Eureka! So I think that's what they mean by using the internet for good, not evil
