Managed to break a heater tap stud in the head of a 1275 head, pretty well flush with the head surface Any advice on removal, easy outs?, drill and re-tap? |

3 Hail Merrys first. Use a pin or flat face puch and gently tap a few times to try to get a bit of a flat surface on the stud first. Lightly centre punch and check with a gasket, if OK then punch again, drill and tap (1/4" UNF). Don't bother with easy outs, it'll break too only making it harder to remove. |

What he said ^^^ When drilling, do it in a bench drill, NOT by hand. I have a head here that was drilled out by hand (not by me), it ran off centre and they drilled through the side of the head!! ![]() ![]() |
