Have been trying to solve a clutch judder issue, have renewed the slave cylinder, clutch diaphragm, clutch plate, clutch bearing carrier and clutch release bearing. I noticed that the old clutch release bearing had a 'spacer' positioned on the bearing carrier prior to the bearing being pressed on, about 1/8" thick. Tried the new set up without it and could not get enough throw in the system to work the clutch properly, fitted the 'spacer' onto the new bearing carrier under the bearing and seem to have the clutch working ok, but have not run it yet.
Can anyone tell what could be worn in the system to require that spacer. The clutch arm, end ball, and clevis pins are all in reasonable shape.

Thanks in anticipation.

Check inside the bearing carrier, if the ball has worn it to a spherical radius the carrier will wobble as it goes in (ie it will try to follow the arc of the ball).
A new carrier has a straight bore, with a taper in the top where the arm goes in.

clutch shudder is caused by the flywheel and/or backing plate being warped or tapered, and not mating with the clutch plate properly

I got a mate to machine my backing plate last week and there was .002" of runout on the face, and .006" on the posts, so it was a bit off... problem is now that the flywheel isn't the same shape as the backing plate, so it's shuddering a bit and I need to pull the flywheel off and machine that

I went through this process last week, and every little bit of wear adds up... I put in a new thrust carrier and arm, and the difference in the position of the slave pushrod is huge. I made an adjustable slave pushrod a while ago, and had to adjust it back to standard.

the slave pushrod eyelet may be oval, the arm mount in the wok may be oval too... just about every part wears

this is well worth a read:
