Can you buy these new? Been qouted $140 ea for reco, then $50 ea for plastic tanks.

Yeah all the good mini places should have them.
Depending on how ruined those ones are you may want to reco them with stainless sleeves etc, would be a similar price to new ones and you can be sure they'll last.

Hmm my mistake, it seems you can get new reservoirs of that type but not the whole kits.

You can have them reco-d,,, you can buy the seal kits, you can buy new Plastic reservoirs & you can have the cyl body re-sleavedwith stainless steel

but you can`t buy "THOSE-PARTICULAR" clys new anymore,,, NLA

you can buy new cyls , but they come as a different shape ,,, as in, not the same "looking" or design as the ones you have

A recon master that has been sleeved with stainless steel or hard drawn brass is better than a new cylinder IMO, so if it's the same price then it's all good.
Sleeved hydraulic parts last a lot longer than plain aluminium or cast iron

I pulled one apart today. Not much too em. Mine have been sitting for 20 years. Is there any way of telling visual if a re sleeve is needed. I see there are kits available for the m/c. Are they a good option and how do i tell if the kit is all that is required? I thought i'd get the new ones, but really want to keep the car looking visually original.( mk2 S ) thanks, not quite a Master of cylinders yet.

All the kits are is new seals and a rubber boot for the end.
They work great if the cylinder bore is good.
However, any corrosion marks (usually near the bleed port) means the fix won't last. A quick hone inside helps, but usually if corroded at all they really need resleeving.
As others said a resleeved cylinder is better than a new one for life, and will still look the same outside.
I would rather resleeve a cylinder than buy the new (wrong style for yours) ones.
