I,ve had a problem with the " Snail " for a while now, just would not hold temperature properly and was using water , not at an alarming rate just a little concerning , it culminated in an overheat that nearly blew the headgasket , the poor car was stranded in the driveway till an answer was found , when my Great - Uncle passed away I got quite a lot of old and very useful tools and bits and pieces , one item was a Warren & Brown Cooling System Analyser , all original still in its box , the first part of testing is attach the radiator cap and pump it to the rated pressure of the cap , well my cap would,nt even fit let alone hold any air to test it , problem found , quick trip to Autobarn , the right cap was on the shelf , fitted new cap , started the car , once it ran up to temperature it pushed a little out the overflow and was all back to normal , even after 10 minutes running I could put my hand on the cap , I gave the " Snail " a good 1 hour run today, a few hills and some twisty stuff to blow out the cobwebs and there was no problems. I,m using 20% rust inhibitor , 20% coolant , 60 % water, normally being Winter I would have had the Grill Muff on but it was a clear fine afternoon , no chance of the carb freezing so to all those people hell bent on an alloy radiator and a thermo fan to keep it " cool " test your radiator cap first . |

I only have the standard water pump from minisport, a standard & now 8 year old aussie radiator (only ever had proper cooland in it) and a standard plastic fan and I can't get NAV hot enough ![]() ![]() I don't see the need to upgrade anything, If anything i want an even hotter thermostat as nav runs better the hotter he gets. |

Both the radiator cap on the Subaru Forester and the Yamaha YZF-R1 started purging fluid in the same week. It was odd, but a trip to Yamaha had a quote of $113.00 for the radiator cap (Ha ha hahahahahahahaha! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Its lovely when it's a simple fix... |
