Post subject: | Modifying Pedal Box |
Hey, I was just wondering if there was a way i could modify my brake and clutch pedals so that when my accelerator is lower than the other 2 pedals? (if that makes sense?) I want to be able to double clutch a little bit easier. At the moment when im braking the acc. pedal is a fair bit higher than the brake when its fully down so its very awkward to get my heel across. The reason i double clutch is because sometimes my gear grinds between 3rd and 2nd and when i i give the acc. abit of a hit while changing gear it changes smoothly. I was thinking of bending the brake and clutch pedals abit so that when the brakes are on full the pedal isnt fully down. I dont know if this is a stupid question or if will effect anything but i thought id ask before i did it. Thanks Blake |

Be careful if you bend them, dont want to weaken it too much.. last thing you want is to snap your brake pedal |

Maybe it would be easier/safer to raise the acc. pedal instead??? Might make cruising a little more uncomfortable though... |

It sounds like you need to replace the synchros in the gearbox if you are needing to double the clutch. I have never had any problems doubling the clutch in a Mini. Pedals are oK where they are. |

I second the "fix the gearbox, not the pedals philosophy" KB |

I just adjusted mine (at the carb) so that it was full throttle as close to the floor as possible (I also made an adjustable pedal stop so it had a definite stop point and didn't stretch the cable). I also have aftermarket brake/clutch pedal plates which help as well. |

Thanks Blake as simon said, i use the side of my foot when double clutching. Using your big toe, would make it awfully arse about face i rekon.. I do find that after having owned a few mini's each of the pedals are at different heights and some are more comfortable for driving than others... |

My well adjusted and bled drums give me a good enough brake pedal so this is no problem. I just push the brake more with the ball of my foot then operate the acc with my little toe at the same time ![]() |

Are your brakes bled well? Your brake pedal might be lower than it should be / needs to be. ![]() |

Just get the revs right in the first place and left foot brake. If your synchros are on the way out itd be preferable to pull the engine out and fix everything at once. |
