Post subject: | Intrusion bars on Jap import |
Quick question for the knowledgeable people out there, I have a 1988 Jap import rover needing intrusion bars, I have made a few calls and done a bit or research with the intent to fabricate some of my own, however, if someone knows anyone in Sydney that can fit them then I would be more than happy to give them some business! Any help appreciated. Bill |

Didn't Aus Mini Cooper (AMC) just get granted compliance for >2000 model Mini's? Not sure who got it then if it wasn't them. Cheers, Dicko |

Prestige MotorSport Website wrote: General News : Rover Mini Compliance AVAILABLE 26/08/2009 Rover Mini compliance has been pending for some years mostly as it has been extremely difficult to get them through the SEVS testing process due to body design / strength. A very reliable workshop that we have dealt with for some years has finally been able to satisfy the requirements and can now comply Minis. The first available is the 1997 - 2000 SPI Jap spec models with the earlier 1995 - 1996 and then 1992 - 1994 models to follow in the near future. Please contact us for compliance costs. The SEVS ruling for the Mini can be seen at: 1992 to 09/2000 Rover Mini A price guide on very tidy 1997 / 98 models with under 70,000 kms will be from about $15,000 to $19,000 complied, plus tyres and ORC's. 1999 / 2000 models will cost from about $19,000 to $23,000 complied, plus tyres and ORC's for the LTD Edition, rare coloured examples. These prices are for the best available, and higher kms will allow cheaper prices. Naturally the cost in Australia is affected by fluctuating exchange rates. So please contact us at [email protected] for an up to date price estimate and some recent auction examples. Of course, we can source a specific vehicle to order for you from the Japanese auctions. There are over 80,000 vehicles per week to choose from ! If you'd like to see for yourself the vast choice of vehicles available at auction in a typical week throughout Japan, why not ask us at [email protected] for a FREE TRIAL of our automated Auction Search System. Contact them to see if they will tell you who does it now.... Dicko |

http://www.ozcooper.com.au/latest_news.htm I suspect if you wanted to buy the bars or just have them supplied and fitted, they aren't interested, however if you take a car to them for conversion & complaince (ie the complete job) they will do it then, along with what ever else is required. This make sence since the bars are a safety device and need to be fitted in an approved manner. Do a search here on ausmini, they made a posting about this not long ago. |

Mine was a PITA JAP-QLD-NSW import. Fortunately, I discovered by peeling off the door cards that the bars had already been fitted in QLD but I got my blue slip / eng cert etc. through Australian Mini Cooper here on the sunny Central Coast as QLD compliance doesn't count as far as the NSW RTA are concerned. I'm sure they're chocka with the mass Cooper compliance. I pretty much looked everywhere in Sydney re: bars as I wasn't sure the ones fitted were adequate. I had given up to be honest and was going to go down the QLD rego path, as it was already "complied" up there. Intrusion bars plus all kinds of crud starts to really add up the cost of an import. But now it's great ![]() I took it to (um, several) engineers to get their input on what exactly was required to bring it up to code. Peter Gillard in Leichhardt gave the best info. Plus he has a great looking 550 Spyder! |

I heard the factory ones don't comply so they can't use 97 onwards doors anyway. |

Post subject: | re intrusion bars |
factory bars dont cut the mustard anymore unfortunately, new ones have to be made and are generally a pain in the backside to fit and do require a bit of cutting and swearing to jam em in ![]() ![]() each states rego rules would of course vary, so best to consult an engineer in nsw and see what his thoughts are, hopefully you wont have to do an emmissions test like whats asked for in vic to make it compliant. cheers josh |

Hi all, Just to clear up some confusion. All MY97 onwards Mini's had SIB's std however these were never tested anywhere in the world and most certainly not to ADR29. To gain SEVS approval for the Mini we needed to fabricate a bar that met these requirements. To enable this bar to be fitted the factory SIB is removed and the replacement fitted in its place. We were also required to physically test the bar to ensure it met ADR29. Due to the design of the door and the small area we have to work with the bar is made up of no less than 5 major components and 14 odd attachments. The door bars are fitted at the time of compliance for any 1997 onwards Mini however we no longer offer this service for pre 1997 cars. As Josh mentioned the rules for any pre 89 car vary from State to State so best to speak to your local rego authorities. Here in NSW you will need an engineers certificate and I have seen various bar designs depending on the engineer..... Compliance on the 1997 - 2000 Mini's is going very well and we are doing about one a week at the moment. Recently a truck arrived from Brisbane with 5 on board. The driver commented he'd never got so many thumbs up and waves from other cars as they passed him on the road ![]() Chris. Aust Mini Cooper. |
