Is the correct procedure to check dwell angle to connect the two leads to the coil, disable the distributor and check the dwell reading whilst turning the motor over on the starter? |

I'm not sure if this is the correct procedure, or do you check it with the engine running, obviously get two different readings, wondering which is correct. |

Whether it is right or not but I have always done it with the engine running, noted the reading, popped the cap off made a bit of an adjustment and re-checked the reading. Never had any issues doing it that way. |

How it's connected depends on it's design. Some work across the points and others across the coil. You really need to follow the dwell meter's instructions. |
