I have an engine with the prefix 99H702V. Now, my chart says that it is a leyland sedan, S sedan or van all ELC. What is ELC? Extended life coolant is all google will give me, or early learning centre.. |

Extended life coolant is all google will give me, or early learning centre.. to quote cush from elsewhere on Ausmini.. cush wrote: may aswell ask now... what's the ELC bit mean? Economy Low Compression? environmental Low Compression? Extra Low Compression? Eat Low Carbs? no answer, but a guess would be to do with emissions control. EPAI notation was Exhaust Port Air Injection.. some info from morris1100 on the matter: Morris 1100 wrote: ELC = the imported 998 motor that was used after the local 1100 production stopped in early 75. They are the "791" coded motors. These motors comply to ADR27 for emissions. So these were used from mid 75 to mid 76. ELC probably means Exhaust or Emission L? (lean?) Control but I am only guessing
![]() EPAI = the later motors from mid 76 that comply to the ADR27A emissions rules. EPAI stands for Exhaust Port Air Injection. These motors have the air pumps. They have the "834" code in the engine number. |

Evaporative Loss Control. It means the car was fitted with a charcoal canister. These engines comply to ADR27 and were used up till the middle of 76 when ADR27a came in. |
