just wondering if it would be possible toput air con in a mini, I am thinking of a small condensor in the drivers side wheel well, out of view, and the other stuff in the original heater box thing..... has anyone managed to fit anything like I am thinking??

Simplest thing to do is fit the setup from a rover.
Fairly cheap and will bolt in.

If you don't want the heater you could put the AC box in the middle and it's work okay, though custom piping will be needed.

There are places that have comboned heater / AC units designed for the likes of hotrodas etc. I looked at fitting one to my car but the space saving wasn't worth the effort when I already have the rover stuff in there.

You can.
In fact you can buy the complete air-con setup from the Jap minis, condensor, plumbing, etc etc.

I know Steve at Brickworx used to sell them, im sure any of the mini importers do too... cant recall price, when I looked YEARS ago it was approx $500-$1000 odd.

Kills power and FILLS your engine bay though... FYI

Cheers,
Peter

by thinking is the Compressor thing should be the only thing in the engine bay, the condesor would go in the wheel arch, besides the wheel so unless you remove the wheel, you wont see it!

brett, you are correct about the wheel well.
i had a mobile aircon guy come out to have a look and that is exactly what he suggested.
he quoted under a grand.
i then bought a rover with aircon and cant really say the aircon sux power

Power loss depends on how you drive and whether the car has a 1275 or 998.

Doogie on here did the Rover/Clubman conversion as well...

My Rover with air con (ie roundnose with air con) looks like the Clubman pic above, but that second radiator thing is further around to the front.

Having air con in a Mini ROCKS during summer...

Oh and power wise, the last dyno my mini was on, they did 2 runs on with no air con and a final run with air con on ... no difference.

I took that photo, the car is in my shed. The alternator is the factory fitted unit, I can't tell you the make of it tho, it does'nt have any markings/numbers on it.
