Hi guys & gals, I can't remember this happening to me before but at the moment I am needing to adjust my clutch about once a week. I adjust it so it is right, lock off the nuts (both over throw and and the clutch arm stop) and in 1 weeks time I have trouble changing gears because I now have no slack in the pedal before the clutch takes up (i.e. even with the clutch fully depressed the car still creeps forward a little when stopped). What I think is wrong: I think I need to replace the clutch arm, plunger, clevis pin (and depending on condition throwout bearing) because it has worn through the hard outer layer of metal on the ball of the clutch throwout arm. My clutch has been in there for quite a few years now so would I be better off just buying a new clutch kit and being done with it? (while also replacing those things mentioned above). TIA, Nick |

maybe remove the wok, arm & plunger and have a good look at it first. if the arm is bent and/or the ball/plunger on the bottom is worn, like mine was, you have to adjust it every few weeks. i thought i just wasnt doing it right, but it was just all worn out. my arm was also bent like a banana ![]() good luck. |

Hi, Sounds like the clutch arm may have a bent ball on the end, they sometimes snap off! |

Thanks for the replies guys (& to the PM's I recieved as well). I started off by trying to remove the clevis pins from the wok to pull just the clutch arm out, no go. So I ended up pulling the wok off and drifting the clevis pins out (took about 4 good hits to remove both of them - I had no chance while it was in the car ![]() My parts list for lunch today is as follows:
plunger (very worn indent from lever arm) lever arm (almost no ball left on one side) upper and lower clevis pins (substantial groove worked into both of them) new slave push rod (old one wasn't looking too good after bathing in brake fluid) more brake fluid to top up the master cylinder as some of it escaped when I was pulling things apart ![]() At the moment I am just hoping that I don't damage the throwout bearing trying to get it off of the old plunger as it is still in good condition. I'm pretty sure this will fix my problem. If it doesn't I'll keep chucking new parts at it until it does ![]() |

my slave cylinder gave up on the way home from Hay a few weeks ago - was sucking in air and giving similar symptoms to what you describe.... I replaced just about everything in the process too it'll be a whole different (better) car with all new parts in it |
