Floats don't, unless they have a hole in em. But the needle valve and seat need changing when they wear. I've found the floats supplied in current genuine SU repair kits now are poorly made rubbish, usually you are better off using the original float. |

Should it be obvious if the needle and seat need replacing, what about the jet? Is the fuelmeister replacements any good? |

Is the fuelmeister replacements any good? If there is a wear ring round the needle valve tip, it needs replacing. jets wear most on later carbs with the spring loaded needles. I use the fuelmiser repair kits in both SUs and Dellortos, they work good. ![]() |

Is the fuelmeister replacements any good? New jets are cheap. Just put a new one in. |

Ive gone and bought a pair of 1 1/4 SUs, mismatched (I.E. Not mirror image like on a cooper) The throttles are connected but the chokes arent. Is this a problem or will only the one carby need a choke. Being young and ignorant Ive never even driven a car with a manual choke so I don't entirely understand their use. Here are the beasts if anyone can shed some light on their origins. ![]() |

I ran my 1961 850 Mini like that back in the `60s for years, no problem. It will start with only 1 choke connected, that's how it was done back then- on 850 Sports, M1100 & Mini twin carby kit, etc. [edit] that kit is same as I had. It was sold as a BMC accessory way back then. |
