To anyone with a Traveller...

Personally I think it would be better if the rear sliding windows were replaced with some kind of transparent force field like they presumably have on science fiction programmes, but since I'm not sure where to buy those I'm wondering what holds in the rear sliding window tracks at the top on the inside of the car. Must be something there, otherwise the windows would fall in on any unsuspecting passengers or dogs in the back. Is it a piece of vinyl covered card like at the bottom? If so, what holds that there, the same kind of clips as the bottom trim, or are they screwed on?

Since people are generally quite tall and Minis are fairly short, most interior photos seem to be taken pointing downwards and I haven't found any pics of this area. If anyone could furnish the internet with a good photo or measurements of the trim that'd be fantastic.

A pic of a rear window catch would be good too, gonna have to make some of those...

Hi,

Congrats on getting a Traveller. :D

The upper track on mine was held in with four or five screws through the tracks at the top, accesible from outside. You will have to side the windows back and forth to find them. Once they are undone the windows will fall inwards, so have an assistant inside ready to catch them.

There was also a piece of vynil trim above the window on the inside. I think it just unclipped, but it's years since I've done it.

By the way, Swiftden on this forum is maintaining a register of Mini Traveller, Countryman and Clubman Estates. You might want to PM him and add your car's details ife he does not already have them.

Hey Brett, thanks for the reply.

Since I bought my car as a shell with virtually nothing on it, my challenges are about figuring out what parts are needed to build the car, rather than how to take it apart. I didn't word my question too well, since I'd already figured out the screws that go up through the channel. Trouble is, the channels I have are soft rubbery junk (not original type) and don't really hold a screw - the heads just pull straight through, so I was thinking there must be something else on the inside of the car holding the channel and window in. Thanks for confirming it's a bit of vinyl trim, and that they're probably clipped in like the other bits.

Sounds like there's no visible screws/cup washers on the trim at any rate, so I'll try and rig something up that looks original. I'm pretty sure those female type clips are no longer available.

I'll be making all the card/vinyl trim so If you or anyone else can take a photo or measure the height of those bits above the windows it'd help me a lot.

And yeah, I gotta message Swiftden, thanks for reminding me.

I have about half a car or more of traveller interior I think the only bits I am missing are the front doors and dash cards they are not too bad and would certainly be good for patterns they are in green . Any help ?

G'day Awoody, thanks for the offer, but from what I've done so far I think I'm right to finish making most of the trim pieces, just wasn't sure about the bit above the windows. I don't think there's much point trying to send those, since I'm guessing they're just long rectangles that can be made easily once I get the dimensions.

I've worked out that the pieces around the windows have these pointy clips in them (right) which clip into another female type clip (left) wedged into the window frame:

I'm guessing the top rail works in the same way.

If you have any of those larger female clips I'd be very interested since I only have a few. Also, you don't happen to have any spare window catches by any remote chance? I'm only going to need two since I only have two of the chrome finger pull things. I'll fix the rear-most glasses in position.

I live in Wyndham Vale, so not far from you if you want to look at stuff on my car from time to time. It's still pretty much at the "barn find" stage, but partially stripped.

Cheers Brett, that might be handy if I'm really struggling with anything. Although Wyndham Vale's still quite a hike given my only car lacks such luxuries as wheels, engine, etc. :)

Ah yes, I've seen that site - some good stuff on there. Actually I think that's where I got the idea that the catches were NLA since other people were requesting them in the Wanted section. Yeah, if you do find that other link I'd love to know.

Ah, there's a good diagram in the parts book? Thanks for the heads up. I've actually ordered one, which should arrive tomorrow. I'll have a look then, save you scanning it.
