hi everyone

wondering if anyone can help. i am fitting the engine back into my 65 deluxe after having rebuilt it and i am finding a few fitment issues i didnt have before.

i fitted a harmonic balancer which it did not have before, and have discovered the fan blade hits it, and the bottom shroud inside bolt hits it aswell.

are there different height lower shroud brackets? it need to be about 5-10mm higher and abount 5-10mm away more away from the balancer.

i have noticed some models have a spacer plate between the water pump pulley and fan blade. as my fan blade needs to go away from the water pump by about 5-10mm which spacer do i need?

help greatly appreciated.

Here is a quick pic. you can see the bolt at the rear will hit on the balancer when the radiator shroud is lifted to the verticle position. it is not verticle in this pic.

i have bent the bottom bracket slightly in this pic to try and gain some gap, and also have ground that rear bolt head down a little to again try and gain some space.

both of these have so far gained bugger all. so i think i need a different lower bracket?

Jason,,, you might want to come over here & have a good look at the way it`s all meant to be with a balancer fitted

you also have no grommets on the lower rad backett mount too,,, naughty boy!!!

wierd...

the engine mount bracket holes where it mounts to the gearbox do give a little bit of adjustment, and the lower radiator bracket holes are slotted too

does this picture help at all?

Image

as for the spacer, I looked at my car and my fan is probably 12mm from the HB, and I have a 10mm spacer, so it would be very close if I didn't have any spacer at all...

yes, there`s 2x rubber grommets meant to be at the top rad bracket & also 2x are meant to be on the bottom bracket also,,, without them the rad screws & rad shroud & rad all rattle themselves to death

it`s not that hard to set it all up properly,,, & there are (at least) 3 different lower rad brackets to choose from depending on the fitment (not including the moke & morris 1100 types

Jason,,, you also don`t have the spring washers for the lower rad bracket-to eng mount bracket bolts

you really are a naughty boy !!!

:-)

Not just for vibration.. the rubber grommets electrically isolate the radiator from the engine and chassis - this means the radiator is always at the same voltage as the coolant, so there is no possibility of electrolysis eating out your radiator ;)

There are 3 different radiator shrouds and the bottom parts are different in the spacing you may need a cooper s one as they used that balancer.

I had similar probs when I fitted my new belt drive kit and MED race balancer. I took the angle bracket off and slotted the 2 holes inwards by 4mm. All fits now.
