Post subject: | Panel beating 101- Spot welds |
Got a new rear beaver panel to fit , whats the best way to "undo" spot welds. I remember reading about a special spot weld drill in a panel beating book, Do they exist? or is their something else? |

I have seen but never used a cutter like this. You centre punch the weld, locate the spring loaded centre guide and away you go. I imagine you need to ensure you cut to the right depth. ![]() |

Hi, Yes, they exist. You can get them on ebay and good welding suppliers usually have them. They are sometimes referred to as spot weld cutters too. Some people just use an 8mm drill bit and are very carefull to only cut through one panel. However, the spot weld cutter is much easier and has a locator to keep it centered. Cheers |

This type: ![]() is generally regarded as better. The aforementioned ones go dull quickly and they're more expensive. These ones last longer and I find them easier to use. Having said that, if you do get one of those cutter types, use them slowly and lots of lubricant. |
