I'd have thought it would make them more brittle, otherwise heat treating is useless.
There's always something to conflict something else.

There is a bloke here in Adelaide, Manta Racing.

He has had heaps of experience on the track and he recommends to do this to EVERY steel piece you can possibly get your hands on and fit in the freezer. Gears, driveshafts, suspension components, diffs, brake rotors, the lot.

Reckons he used to go through 3 diffs a year in his late VZ Clubsport, (in the GT production class) now has three seasons out of the current one.

I'd do it.

lets talk about this. so It relieves stress in that it smoothes the molecular structure of the metal. In essence, cryo treating metals packs the molecules more tightly and releases carbides which makes the metal stronger and more durable. Because the meatal is kept at such a low temperature for such an extended perior of time, the molecules slow enough that they are able to more tightly pack. Perhaps relieving stress was not the proper description or terminology Reckons it is a waste of time on a A+ gears? i got quoted $80 cheap as chips. what do you think??

There's always something to conflict something else. that is what i thought as well dude. but it's a different process, to heat treating nitrating. you are not breaking the structure at all just fixing the inconsistencies when the cast is done so it is tightly bound more? craps me harley but all the American boy racers swear by it. i may have to be the test pilot yes i have heard that about the diff's also cranks are done even.

I'd do it. what is his name? might give the guy a quick call. the guy i called on the phones reckons this guy in america claims 300% increase in strength, and guarantee's it! lol the guy in QLD laughed and said in my opinion more like 50% nice chap. now what are the gears made from? he said en36 maybe? im not sure. did mini gears come with anything done from factory? hardening?

I`m not sure what it would do to the Molly coated syncro surfaces tho, i`ve had syncro surfaces re-sprayed tho,,, so maybe it`s all good But then my Kombi gears strip the teeth right of (every gear) because they`re too brittle to start with,,, makes them last & last for the "WEAR" properties,,, just way too hard for big power & cracks the teeth Albins are an after market gear manufacturer , they`re in Melbourne,.,, they make GREAT QUALITY gears for racing Vws & -Porsches & the like,,, maybe they can shed some more light on the subject

hey Matt Jonh K is swearing buy it. http://www.specialist-components.co.uk/ ... +Treatment im going to call him tonight, and ask about it. he said syncros are fine. what you get to treat for this (minis only) - gearbox casing/diff casing/end covers all gears inc synco hubs laygear + shaft f/d gears drop gears selector forks etc works on bearings to! so im going to do it, even if i'm the test pony i don't care.
