Hi

I would just like to double check some bolt tension figures with the experts
Engine is a 1275 (1100s)
Main bearings i have done to60ft lbs without locktabs and bigends to 35 ft lbs.
I hope this is correct, the manual listed 45 ft lbs for cooper s only.
Do they use better blts for the higher tension?

Thanks

What are the rods - some 1100s have S rods. I would be very careful with what you are doing in there, its not something with a margin for error.

Measure the threads on the bolts. If they are 3/8" (same rods as Cooper S) they should be 46 ft/lb.
The later 1100S, & 1275LS onwards bolts are 11/32" diameter, I think they are 35lb/ft (my 6 manuals don't say different).

35 ft/lbs is correct.

Hi

Just had a look at the rods they are AEG521 .
I'm guessing that might be cooper s and 46 ft lbs

Thanks

Yes that is correct, if bolts and nuts are originals.
Have a good look at the threads on the bolts, if damaged replace them.

Note that ARP's replacement S ones are 50ft/lb, using the moly lube supplied with them.
These are getting bloody dear now, I use ARP's 155-6002 `big block' Ford ones instead. Just take a slight head reshape on the sander to fit.
Less than 1/2 the price..... same grade bolt.
