hey i'm going to buy a new 2nd gear.

my one at the moment is fine but i want to replace it with a new one for piece of mind as i'm about to strip it.

are these gears as good as the original cast? anyone had problems with these?

if i replace 2nd gear should i replace anything else. with a new cast part?

the box has just been rebuilt, we used the same gear set though looked good.

Will pull the gears before ordering or check with my mechanic.

Just wanting to know the strength is? I would prefer a new gear
Then use the 16yr old one in there
And it's cheap as!

Nick,

As I mentioned to you this morning, there are 3 different 2nd Gears fitted to the all syncho gearboxes, two of them have 26 teeth alhough different helix angle and the other has 25 teeth. It would be a good idea to find out which one you have before you buy. These gears are manufactured by Powertrain who made them for Rover, so are as good as original.

Fantastic! :D ill strip and count the teeth before I order.

When he puts it back together we should be right :)

My speedo is way out maybe 10 or 15 percent
do I need some sort of new speedo drive? I'm on 12's.

Also look for either no 'strip', one 'strip' or two down the middle of the gear teeth. That is the quickest way to ID them.

What diff ratio and tyre are you running? not the wheel size the tyre size.
