just installing a pulsar distributor/coil to my 998.

I have no idea about how to set static timing etc but im keen to give it a go.

However first of all (and no doubt this is a dumb question), how do you know which lead goes where on the cap?
Only number 1 is marked.

the firing order is 1 - 3 - 4 - 2 at the distributor, and it rotates anti-clockwise

so distributor #1 goes to spark plug #1 (nearest the radiator)
so distributor #2 goes to spark plug #3
so distributor #3 goes to spark plug #4 (nearest the cutch)
so distributor #4 goes to spark plug #2

make sense?

It does mate thankyou.

I'm trying to finish someone else's project here - the wiring is all taken off (and not labeled) , and its running the pulsar dizzy/coil.

Would i be correct in saying that the + on the alternator goes to the solenoid?

And does the + on the coil get 12V from the solenoid as well?

Currently i have 12V at both the + and - side of the coil. Must be doing something wrong?

It will measure 12V (to ground) on both sides of the coil, in between sparks. This is because there is then no current flow through the coil.
The blue dizzy wire goes to - on the coil, the black/white dizzy wire goes to +.

12V+ to the + on the coil comes from the ignition switch (or the switched fuse, same thing).
The only connection to - on the coil is the blue wire to the dizzy, unless you have a tacho fitted.
