ok, so last weekend, I put new discs on the van, and well had some great fun NOT.....

Everything was going all fine until having to bash the CV's off the shaft, and well the passengers one came off fairly easy. The drivers didn't. Using a vice with the shaft clamped in it, i bashed in every direction I could, to get it off, but it wasan't budging. The circlip just woudn't compress or break.. I got so fed up with it, tryed everything I could think of, differen't techniques etc etc, but nothing worked. Let's just say a few of my hammers in the shed where thrown across the yard in rage... lol 4 hrs later of constant bashing, and 2 six packs of coopers empty, it finally gave way, and the circlip broke.

Put it all on the car, bled the brakes, wheels on, and took it for a spin round the block to check everything was good and no noises and brakes were good, only to find straight away it steered like SHI* it was horrible, so light, and you had to turn the wheel heaps to make the car turn.., didn't know wat it was, so stoped and had a look, and silly me didn't check the wheel alignment b4 i started aye?? both wheels where partically facing in opposite directions, so fixed that up, went for another burl, and all perfect thank goodness

The result of the newly rebuilt hubs and discs etc on the car, made the effort worth while in the end

Yeah discs are a great invention after having to pump the drums going into a corner

Watch out those housebricks and timber that the Min is supported by don't explode on you

ive got a set of car stands, however because I had the rear of the car up on ramps, doing other stuff (which you can't see) and it was at a quite a bit of an angle to jack up and I didn't like the idea of the stands holding the car up on this angle. (not enough stability) there is a jack and another stand on the other side holding the car, and the bricks and wood where just there holding some weight, and helping sturdy the car betta than the stands were..

i personally feel that the car stopped betta with drums on them (which were well adjusted, and pumped) and it used to stop much much quicker than these discs, but it used to shudder tho.

You must have some pretty dodgy stands. They have a wider base to prevent tipping over. Especially if the back of the car is up you need to have the bricks longitudinally with the car, thats the way itll fall.

yes and know...... supercheap ones...

they would not fit in anyway, because the front was wayy to low for them to fit under, and i wasan't going to lift it any higher as the wobblier it will get. it was plenty high enough for me, and really sturdy

please don't use bricks....full stop. No excuses. Do it right or not at all.

Personally I would never put a car up on stands on grass.

We have had this argument about car stands and jacks ect. ect. before.
It really doesn't matter as long as the person doing it has tested it and is satisfied that everything is safe.
Nothing is going to ever be 100% safe. How many cars have fallen off professionally made car lifts in professional garages?

Wish mine were that shiny. Grass=squished mini owner ive had stands sink and the car drop, was quick and lucky

I've only ever jacked up the mini on grass - from the jacking point...

Yeah, it's a bit dodgy, but whenever I jack up ANY car I put a lump of wood underneith as well, just in case. I'm not concerned about getting squashed then, only about the damage on the car if something goes wrong. Nothing's happened yet.

I saw a photo of a brand new Rolls after 1 leg of a 4 post hoist collapsed not a happy owner Daren

If i take the tyres off to work on it i always throw them underneath, out of the way and something else to get squished before me.
