not too sure about timing but the leads are in the correct order (same as they were when they came off), worst case its 180 out, and i switched ` and 4 and 2 and 3

how do u adjust timing???

Is it winding over ok?,hasn't got a crook ignition switch?, i seen this a while back with a
mates mini , he had to wind the crap out of it to get it to fire, i said to him that it should be starting better than that as everything was set right .
I stuck my hand inside the car and flicked the key and the bloody thing fired up straight away, i showed him what i had done and he just stood there shaking his head. I have had this happen before , ( years ago ) whilst you continually hold the key in the start position it will wind over but not fire, but as soon as you release the key it will fire, don't ask me what the problem is but it is obviously a fault in the switch.
Not sure if this helps , but worth a try .
Goodie.
