Post subject:  Indicator stalk with the green light on the end.

I bought an old school indicator stalk from eBay last week and it turned up today. I've never seen or used one of them before... my '67 mini came with a clubman stalk.

Anyhow... i was just playing with my newly acquired item and have found it only has two positions. Am i missing something? Surely it needs 3 positions... left, off, right. It can't have only two positions or i'd be either not able to turn off my indicators or i would be missing left or right indicators.

Can someone shed some light on my issue? I'm currently at work and don't have toooo much time to play with it, but it's going to be sitting in the back of my mind for the rest of the day and annoy me.

Cheers,

Simon.

That would have made it really difficult (and confusing to other drivers) in Sydney in the 70's when they banned right turns on almost every intersection along the narrow old main roads like Parramatta Road - when everyone had to learn to make 3 lefts to make a right

It has a few points of difference to the minisport one. eg: the plugs, the square versus round brass contact, different looking stalk base. etc.

You're getting Australia and the continent confused, it was only left turns here in Oz, 3 lefts make a right.

I re built one from a couple of damaged ones - Think I have the bits at home but won't be back there till next week - if you don't get a solution before then I'll try and work out what is going on - It should be off in the middle and there should be a pin/screw in the steering column that causes it to flick off as the wheel centres again

Think I have it - should there be a spring between the top holes as well - that pulls those 'jaws' apart and the column pin cause it to latch to one side then catches and returns on the way back

hmmm... i was looking at that. wondered what the holes were for. I still don't see how that will make it have a central location.

It is broken. A couple of the plastic bits are broken in your second photo.
I think it is missing a plunger and spring.
