Post subject: | Exhaust Suggestions |
Hi all I'm in the last stages of rebuilding my engine and have come to the decision making time on what exhaust system to fit. When I took delivery of my Mini (68 Mini-Matic), there was pretty much no remains of the old exahust system except for about 20cms of the tail pipe. My current setup is a single carb with the standard one piece cast inlet / exhaust manifold. I havent had the opportunity to examine other minis to see how they are setup so I am sort of new to this. Not to sound too stupid, but is there a way of using the RC40 standard setup with the single carb. Wasnt sure about the 3 into 1 extractors when dealing with the inlet manifolds. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |

Most 3 into 1 extractors (but not Maniflow) fit with a cut down standard manifold. You just cut the exhaust part off and toss it. Otherwise, buy a Minispares alloy inlet manifold. About $100 here, less in UK. |

The minispares inlet is probably the way to go - you get the option of heating it as well. That should reduce fuel cosumption, since the fuel won't condensate on the sides of the manifold. Unless you're running a performance engine, I wouldn't reccomend an LCB for your exhaust manifold. They're hard to install, and if you have a small block like me, they sit very low to the ground. Use a cooper freeflow manifold. If you're running a 1275 or bigger, I don't know what to suggest, just don't use an LCB on a 998! |

my ideal exhaust would be minispares inlet manifold 3to1 extractors inch and 3/4 pipe leading to a twin box rc-40 setup. |

I have a cut intake manifold but i ported it out to suit a 1 3/4 carby and matched it to the head, they can be opened up a lot. My exhaust is LCB's (cut open and modified for flow then welded back) then 2" down to a big baffled muffler, i like a softer deep note. |

My ideal exhaust would not include anything made in England. You can get better stuff made locally from better steel. |
