Have any of you ever put in a new windscreen (and the back one too)?????? Is it an easy job???? From what I've read, it sounds easy enough but as we all know, when you come to actually doing the job, it's always a damn site more difficult and takes forever to do - you then regret it and wish you had called in the experts. I have to put the front and back windows back into 'Sherman' - and have been quoted $110 for both. What glue do I use - if I decide to do it myself??? |

I don't think you use glue, the rubber will do its job on its own. Getting the windows out is always easy (harder if you don't break em) but if you have a professional put then in, and they break, it shouldn't cost you for their mistake. Unlike if you did the same thing. |

The $110 is to fit both windows, using the existing glass and seals. To be perfectly honest, I would have thought new seals would be the way to go - the existing ones are still soft so they cant be too old. I dont have the locking strips either so that might cost me some extra $$$ Great article in "just another Mini" - do you suppose Doogie would lend me his two gadgets???? The reason I am asking about the glue is because there is some crap on the glass, in the grooves in the rubber and also on the car that resembles old chewing gum - proving quite a hassle to get it all off. Obviously some sort of sealant, but there is no mention of using glue in any of the reading material. Put the glass in the passenger door a few days ago - what a bloody nightmare. Oh well, at least I know how to do it now and wont have all of the hassle when I do the drivers door.

I had a new windscreen fitted when in S.A. for the Mini show in March. Went to Brickworx and he installed it with a new locking strip. Didn't use any glue at all. Doesn't leak & he did a great job. Not sure on cost as you are allowed one new windscreen per year when insured with Shannons (if damanged of course). I had three hits in mine so qualified easily. |

I always put them in with windscreen sealer, which is like a black rubbery stuff. Works well! |

I never used glue when I put mine in. and it doesn’t leek at all. But I did use a lot of sop maybe when the sop dries it works as a sealer. |

Both the front and back windows went in pretty easy but I'm not convinced they wont leak when it rains - so I think I'll get new seals and let the professionals do the job. |

You must go and check Antons website! If he can do it anyone can. I can also verify that you don't need any glue. The rubber will prevent all water unless it is perished. Off course don't attempt this job without the tools. Borrow these of your panelbeater who has more of your money than the bank! |

For appearances sake, dont bother with the sealant. If ya dont want it to leak in a few years grab yerself a tube of "Selley's Dmastic". its a non-curing sealer. The stuff professional's use. I dont have locking strips on my windows. I just went with self locking rubbers instead. |

ive just finished mine, no glue required, the locking strip provides the seal, if u have a non mk1 mini fitting the rear window is easy, cept mine decided it didnt want to fit and caused mega annoyance and money spending but hey it was probably just my car |

The locking strip does exactly that, it locks the rubber over the glass, to retain the windscreen. That sealant isnt just to stop water getting into the car, it's designed to keep water out of the rubber entirely. What happens when the water gets between the seal and the body, and has nowhere to go?? It sits there and rusts the living hell out of the body underneath. We all know how much fun rust can be in a mini. I've installed windscreens on all types of vehicles, cars, trucks, cranes, boats and now helicopters. The only vehicle we didn't use sealant on was the Toyota Hilux, as it actually had drain holes in the rubber, leading into drain holes in the body. I strongly suggest that the sealant be used, to save trouble later on. But I will leave it to personal preference. |
