ausmini :: View topic - Where to buy parts?

There was discussion here a week or two ago about ordering wheels from the UK.

There was a link to company - one of many UK based ones, and a company I had not used before.

To see what the cost would work out to be I went through the process of selecting the wheels, which was fine, but then you cannot process the order without knowing what the postage/courier cost will be. The only solution was to process the order by supplying a credit card number and then wait. An email promptly arrived the next day indicating the postage/courier would be 140 pounds. With the cost of the wheels and the postage/courier the difference between buying locally was aboput $50.

Ok - that was a good exercise. The email indicated the cost of the postage/courier and would I like to proceed? I responded simply saying to please cancel the order. The email bounced straight back because instead of .uk the address ended with just a .u. I adjusted the email correctly and also fowarded to the other email contacts on their website to make sure it was known to cancel the order.

Three days later I get another email saying the order had been shipped. Again I replied that I had cancelled the order and pasted in the previous email. They responded saying they had never received the cancellation and the goods had already left! At this point I checked my bank balance and the funds had been transferred OS.

To cut an even longer story short - they finally had the goods returned before being put on the plane. The bad news is that the company has not refunded the payment they took from my bank, now some two weeks later.

As mentioned I have not bought from this company before and certainly will not in the future.

Concerning wheels - buy local and save the heartache.

Ok so basically I'm after info on where the cheapest place is to buy some parts for my mini. I'm thinking about buying a new chrome grill with moustache and all the trimmings. Also thinking about chrome flares, eyelids and also looking to buy new or good condition black low back seats or small bucket seats. Any ideas guys? What about ordering parts from the uk? Any recomendations or is it cheaper just to find a place in oz. Cheers guys

Hey, It depends what you buy and how much of it. If found that minispares.com and minisports.com based in the UK have been pretty good. For example i bought a set of new wheels from minisports in the UK and even with 4 day express shipping it still worked out cheaper than getting them from some of the Australian suppliers. In another transaction from minispares I bought car badges, mats, twin su tuners, headlight covers and ather assorted goodies for under $AU200 including shipping. Also some of the UK suppliers sell parts which I could not find here, again using the example of my deep dish 10x6 rims. I would recommend going through the purchasing process on a few websites in order to see the actual final cost including shipping. Cheers

most people have a favourite... but generally speaking Australian based mini specific suppliers are very knowledgeable, but you pay a little more - there are a few suppliers in each capital city. Grab a copy of The Mini Experience and look at the ads Australian based 'wholesalers' tend to be cheap and fast delivery, but you can't ring them for advice. Karcraft is the one I use Getting stuff from the UK is cheap, but freight cost and time is a bit of a gamble

CAUTION - Cheap parts are usually not. They may break on fitment or die early in use or not fit at all. I would suggest you seek out quality parts and then let the pricing come after that. There are a good number of decent suppliers here in Oz, I am a little werry of some of those overseas, besides, if yu want to make a warrenty claim on say a wheel bearing, would you bother to send it back to the UK?

http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=64752 Check this link out, so what happened if you ordered the part from OS, it arrives but you find out that there is something wrong with it. Now you have to sent it back, most likely at your expense, wait another 10 days for the item to make it back to the uk. Then wait another 10 days whilst they make a decision about whats wrong with the item, then hopefully they replace it under warranty and post a replacement which takes another 10 days. So 30 days of waiting for a $5.00 saving

Yeah a big +1 for "Quality First". I've had good results with MiniSpares UK (freight pricey depending on what u get) and great results with Karcraft - they might cost a bit more than UK but freight has always been better and FAST. As always YMMV cheers Jacob

I find a lot of the UK stuff that is cheap is rubbish. The Australian suppliers will tell you what is good and what is crap, and even though you pay just a little bit more, the knowledge, honesty and service is great. Support Australian suppliers and we will have them around for a long time. Personally I like Mini King and Minisport SA. I have also dealt with MiniPlus, MG heritage, Mini Spares Centre, Mini Classic, and Matt the Mini Man and they have all been good to deal with Ryan

I like karcraft, they would be the cheapest parts available in aus and the delivery rate is incredible. Order one day and often have it the next

Concerning wheels - buy local and save the heartache. dave this has happened to me in the past. i just complained to my credit card company and gave them proof they forced the refund. shops can get in alot of trouble for that kind of thing. fraud you fill a form it's easy, you should do it. nick.
