The gear stick on a remote change box, has the eye that the balls fits into and the ball on the end of the stick. What wears more.

I have heaps of play in this joint and the ball on the gear stick has lots of marks in it from wear. Should i replace both.

Both, but not quite how you would expect. The alloy eye wears and the slot on the big ball of the gear lever and the pin for it also wears.

8 hey

1 the half ball on the stick that goes into the remote
2 the ball on the end of the stick
3 the eye that the ball fits in
4 the hole in the end of the rod that joins the knuckle
5 the knuckle itself having two pins through it
6 the hole in the selector rod
7 the ball spring on the selector rod
and then i guess your inside the gearbox

[EDIT] I guess for a remote change box

how much play should there be around the ball in the eye. should it be a snug fit or have a few mm play.
