hey Guys and Gals,

I'm wanting to order a set of seats from huddersfiled spares over in the UK. the shipping cost i have been quoted from them is 305 pounds which converts to $540 Australian. the shipping is costing more than the seats!

does anyone any particular company's to use that i could save some money. (they are using TNT via air so i would get the seats within 8-10 days) i'm not worried about the time frame, i can wait 1-2 months if needed. i just can't justify that much for postage.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ask them for a quote on sea freight. It would be wise to get them to arrange the fright from their end.

I bought a pair of seats and a couple of other spares from the UK and shipping was over 400 pounds. And it took forever to get to me. (over 4 months)

I bought a set of tyres and a boot lining kit from Huddersfield and thought their freight prices were very reasonable. I think it was about 90 pounds and it was here in seven days.

Seats plus packaging obviously takes up a lot more room. The freight would be calculated according to the volume as opposed to how much the shipment weighs.

Just a suggestion, see if it's possible to split the order into two small shipments and see if they work out any cheaper. Volumetrically, two small shipments might work out cheaper than one big shipment with couriers. It depends how it's packaged.

Also, to add more pain I reckon you're going to crash past the $1,000 mark and you'll end up copping import duties & GST on top, so this also might make it worth your while to have it split up into a couple of shipments.

I thought the import duties were calculated on the cost of the item and didn't include the shipping cost. This has been discussed many times before so somebody should be able to confirm this.

Duty and GST is calculated on the goods, no the freight, but there are some 'dirty' customs agents who may try to take advantage.

i had to cut out a small section where the runners go in the channel , easy job if u know a fabricator
if u need a shipping agent u can try any company for shared container rate. usually @ 700 for first cube and 300 after from the uk, dont hold me to the price i had some stuff last year

price is calculated on day of purchase or export, i forget now.
