my current car was last registered in 1984. It had sat in a garage for 23 years until i rebuilt it. its only been on the road two years. If you have the previous owners paperwork it makes things much easier.
But given that the numbers on the engine and the body didnt come up in any of their searches as stolen, owing monies etc, they just processed it pretty quickly. And the compliance plate exists on the car is its post 72 production.
You will definately need a reciept of purchase from the previous owner. My motor was new and didnt match, i had to provide reciepts for the motor as well, i had all the reciepts from the machine shop which was enough.
I had the previous owners rego from 1984, they didnt even come out and look at the car, just gave me the plates over the counter.
If it didnt have seatbelts im pretty sure you need to get an engineer to certify installation of seatbelts.
