Post subject: | Registration of vehicle (Vic) |
Hi all Can anyone see any foreseeable problems with getting a car that hasnt been registered since 1987 re-registered? It is being rebuilt to pretty much original specs (only different coloured interior and different block & head). I wasnt sure if it would need to comply to any new safety standards or any other unknown requirements. Thanks |

Wont need to comply to any new standards, will need the normal roadworthy etc, so find someone who understands thatn minis didnt come with seat belts etc. If you have mis-matched engine numbers that may also be a problem, call up vic roads but it usually depends on how suspicious the inspector is. |

Vicroads won't care - you need proof of prior registration (an old rego sticker), and proof of ownership (a receipt). If you don't have either or both of those they have a statutory declaration form you can sign It's 'easiest' to use a vicroads office outside melbourne, as they tend to be friendlier, but you'll be fine... |

my current car was last registered in 1984. It had sat in a garage for 23 years until i rebuilt it. its only been on the road two years. If you have the previous owners paperwork it makes things much easier. But given that the numbers on the engine and the body didnt come up in any of their searches as stolen, owing monies etc, they just processed it pretty quickly. And the compliance plate exists on the car is its post 72 production. You will definately need a reciept of purchase from the previous owner. My motor was new and didnt match, i had to provide reciepts for the motor as well, i had all the reciepts from the machine shop which was enough. I had the previous owners rego from 1984, they didnt even come out and look at the car, just gave me the plates over the counter. If it didnt have seatbelts im pretty sure you need to get an engineer to certify installation of seatbelts. |
