Post subject:  Reducing Induction noise
I've fitted a weber on a 3005 redline manifold and while I do like the induction noise on a long drive it does get a bit much.

I've looked at fitting a cover over the centre binnacle hole in the firewall previously but with the weber and the redline manifold there doesn't look to be quite enough room, as I think the carb would make contact with anything I was to put there.

What have others done (appart from suffer permanent hearing loss)?

but seriously have you tried a ramflo filter?they should just clear with the redline manifold. Failing that you could machine off some of the mounting face & angle it up five degrees like doc did

There never seems to really be enough room between the Weber and the firewall to do anything meaningful in there in the way of installing either a filter or remote air intake to muffle the noise to an acceptable level.

If it is too noisy you must be too old ! LOL. Webers make a great drone.. How about blocking the hole behind the speedo from the inside and adding some sound deadener inside there too. But you will never get rid of all the noise.

lots of people who fit webers say they did it because they like the noise :lol: I swapped my weber for a moke and never looked back

EAB's method of fitting the weber might cut down the noise too :shock:

I like the noise, but with a decent cam it can get too loud.

a) Sound insulation in the dash
b) I changed back to a K&N filter instead of the ram tubes & socks.

The filter made the biggest difference, at a minimals cost to HP.

Here's an alloy airbox I prepared earlier... :P
I built it to go in the wife's van.
Not run it, but it does fit in the car on a Weber or Dellorto with STANDARD angled 3005 manifold.
Unfortunately it won't fit on the 3005 manifold in my car as I've altered the manifold's flange angle.

If you pull the coil lead off all the induction noise will stop completely.

I may actually try to help you on this topic, unlike others, if you have a roundnose with a black binnicle fitted,find a old lounge cushion, cut the cover off, cut to big squares of foam, jam the in the back of the speedo, then fit the firewall blanket. You will be amazed at how much noise it cuts out.

Sounds sensible. I might see if Clarke rubber has some off cuts. Doubt I'd be that popular if I cut up the couch cushions.

I used to run this same setup on my car in the early 90s and I fitted a cover from a clubman which fits over the speedo hole. You need to cut a hole for the wiring but it fitted with a ramflow(?) filter. The cover from a clubman is a bit concave so gives you room enough the the crappy filter.
