| Post subject: | Weber Ram Tubes |
bought a 45DCOE weber. it has a ramflow air filter and no ram tubes. what is the best trumpet/horn/ram tube to use with a ramflow? should i get ram tubes and use filter socks? i dont have the room for the larger air filters. and no box in the firewall. any suggestions? is it worth getting ram tubes? I don't think Ramflows actually flow any where as well as tubes and socks or K&N element filters. I run tubes and socks but have a box in the firewall. If you have a Clubby run the Ramflow (with not too much oil in it!), if you have Roundie run some tubes and socks in behind the speedo (fireproofing is a good idea as you may get stand off). |

I find the Ramflo flows fine, IF you bin the stock filter foam and use a Unifilter LNX400 one instead. If you want to improve flow into the carb (and low speed mixture control) with a Ramflo on, I make 5mm radiused alloy stubstacks for this. Available in sizes 40, 42, 45mm. $55/pr including post.

When GR ran mine on the RE engine dyno we found that there was no difference between the ramflow filter and the bare ram tubes that came with the 45DCOE. We also compared no filter, and no backplate fitted. Interestingly the plain ramflow backplate without filter or ram tubes produced the best torque and power accross the band. It was in the order of 0.5hp or so. I now run some of the drmini special stub stacks under the ramflow filter just because, although they were never tested on the dyno for comparison. So the numbers show that with my engine, there is bugger all difference. Not having to move stuff or cut the firewall with the ramflow filter for no difference in performance is the best option in my book. cheers michael |

Thanks doc, i think i might grab some of those stubstacks from you soon. also i think i will grab a unifilter LNX400 filter element aswell as the one supplied with this one is crap. i think it is some foam from something else and cut with a pair of scissors

thanks doc. ordered a unifilter element. also ordered $500 worth of weber parts
should have everything by the end of next week. |
