Post subject:  Need new shocks for the van, where to buy??
hi guys, as title says, my clubby van needs new shocks all round for the big trip to SA in November, so where can I buy some good shocks, that are cheap but also good economy?

Overseas? Local? Anywhere, people tell me your advice?


I believe that the van's are different to the sedans for shocks?

Also whats the go with adjustable ones? gas or oil? whats all the go there???

Not trying to be a wise guy, but it's a bit like 'how long is a piece of string?'

It depends on what you want and expect from them. Standard shocks can be quite good and then you go from there. Stockies I usually get from Karcraft. Sports types I get from the UK. I have used Koni's, Spax's and Gaz - all very good but these days I feel that the Spax and Koni's are a bit dear, the Gaz seem to be good value for money - all of these are adjustable BTW however in this regards the Koni's are a PINA as you have to drop of one end of the shock to do so.

The fronts are the same as for a sedan but the rears are a little longer for a Van (same as Moke).

KYB are pretty decent. Good price and do their job. Most places can get them, some mini suppliers, shock absorber mobs, even autobahn/supercheap etc can get them for you. These aren't adjustable though.

in terms of adjustable, does that adjust the ride smoothness?

I have put pedders shockies in my moke for standed shocks they seamed to be quite good and they are well priced

Monroe make a basic oil one, that is reasonably cheap and excellent quallity. KYB make both: gas and oil and adjustable oil but when I asked I couldn't get adjustable for the rear only front. Apparently they dont make them but ask around.

Gabriel and Peddars are the same brand, cheap chinese (taiwanese technically I think) and I would stay away. Go with a decent brand. more expensive but will last heaps longer so it evens out.
Just google for failures in the chinese shocks, you are lucky if you get more than a year.

Id hit up autobahn etc first, they should be cheaper than most of the aussie suppliers and fathers days coming so expect a 20% off sale. UK is even cheaper but you need to get a few things to make postage worth it.

i agree with you kirby, i had fathers day in mind specially :P :lol: but also got a bunch of stuff I need to get from the UK, but I've been advised by a friend that postage JUST for the shocks will be $100 or more... :shock: haven't yet looked into seeing if thats the case or not,,,,,,

I should hope it wouldn't be 100 for postage, I had a set of springs hilos and other bits for under 50 sent via her majesty's mail. they are small shocks and there isn't all that much weight in them.

Don't forget it will likely be something that needs ordering so if you are on a deadline consider that when going the chain store route.

yeah, need it for this time next month or so, so getting in quick.

I checked it out and postage just for the shocks ranged from 80 to 109ish..

tho if I added the other stuff im buying with it, it hardly changed it at all, so i guess that's not so bad, you have to get other stuff with it as you say to make it worth while..
