Post subject:  Repairing the rust
I think we have decided to try and repair the rust ourselves. Both the front and rear passenger sides are rusted through, and so is the outer sill. The boot is also rusted out but not sure if im going to replace that right away.
So i was wondering, does anyone have any advice on what to do and what not to do? Has anyone done it themselves and how did they do it/what did they use that worked well or not? Should i just buy the panels from a mini shop or is there somewhere good to buy the bestest panels from? :) Or even does anyone know the name of a book or website which could help me out. Any info is appreciated :)

and i hate that word one of mymothers freinds used to call me a ninny and i was quiet annoyed with her one day so i let fly with some expeltives and abbuse and told her in no uncertain turns not to call me that

Go for it , the shell has got to be worth the trouble tho, i am in the process of doing the battery box and drivers side floorpan in 2 minis now. If you know someone with a MIG welder it helps too.

If it's major rust I wouldn't try it unless you can weld. If you can then go for it :wink:

Yeah, I say go for it....My old man has done all of the rust repairs (and there were LOTS) on Elmo and saved me a packet!! (he can weld though :D ) Im going to start on Lizie as soon as i get up to date with my uni work, so i can learn the ins and outs of the whole thing. the beuty about this situation is taht you have a big forum of people to help you out with it if you get stuck, so i say go for it!! :D

Go for it. I spent last weekend bringing the area under the front bumper back to bear metal, rust converted, etch primed then sprayed. Looks bling bling now :lol:

Not bad for a home job with canned paint :oops:
