I have a thermo fan and a temp sensor in the bottom Rad hose currently. I have one of them ebay China rads, would it work to change the drain plug on the bottom corner of the radiator to a temp sensor, replacing the drain plug to flick my thermo fan on when needed? is that a proper way of doing it? if this is ok to do, where would i get something like that and what should i ask for where should i go. cheers. |

yep, you can do that. Take your radiator to repco and ask for a thermo fan switch that'll fit in the hole |

Let us know what you come up with. I've been looking for months but the only sender I found in the right size and on/off temp was $60. Would rather something cheaper incase it gets damaged when I pull it out to drain the radiator. |

Try not to get one too hot. The bottom tank of the radiator will already have had a pass through the radiator to cool it down. I have a mechanical one set at 40°C in my bottom hose (near the pump) and my thermo fan hardly ever comes on. I don't know if the location would make a difference though. |

M16 x 1.5 I think. Rover switches came on at 98 and went off at 92 degrees or something like that. |

$60 isn't obscene Jaycar has a cheap kit that's adjustable, but would require some dicking around to mount it in the radiator |

I'm looking at exactly the same thing. I currently have one of those adjustable ones inserted in the top hose, but it leaks no matter what I do. Ideallly I want an 85-On/80-Off or 90-On/85-Off one, as I'm not runnning an engine driven fan at all. I grabbed a few sensors last time I was at the wreckers to try. My thermostat housing has a plastic plug in the top. If I can't get a sensor to replace the drain plug, then I''ll drill and tap the plastic plug. |

Try an auxillary radiator to let your engine cope with airflow...plumbed into where heater core would be connected. Can be blocked off in cooler weather. Also, switched fan in the inner wing since I know when it's hot and I'm stuck in no go freeway traffic.

It needs a small gasket of sorts...the rubber hose cannot conform to the shape the cable wants it to be. If you find a small piece of thin rubber, you cut a strip about 20mm wide 25mm long and and cut a small groove across the width of the strip (enough to take half the diameter the cable you are passing into the top hose). Sand the 25mm ends of the strip down to a fine taper and slide the strip into the radiator hose between the outlet and the cable. Run the cable through the groove you created, slide the hose over the top without upsetting the gasket and cable and it should remove the leak. I've had no problems with 1/8th cables running into the top hose with the gasket made as above. |

That would be okay for a stock rover item, but these radiators have a smaller hole. I did design an adapter to fit the alloy job to fit a rover sensor, but it didn't sit in the radiator far enough to be a practical design. |
