Has the master cylinder been apart? Was the return spring inside the MC replaced when it was reassembled? |

how long was it on the shelf. surface rust in the bore and the rubber is getting caught on it. take the thing apart, use some steel wool to give the bore a LIGHT clean. as mentioned if the spring is worn replace it. might need to replace the rubber too. |

There's a circlip inside the bore which will release the contents of the master cylinder. |

how do i get to that circlip?? is it near where the bar that pushes the piston, which connects to the clutch pedal is? |

Take MC off car, emty it, turn it upsidedown, look down the mc pushrod (shaft that pushes pedal pushes into the MC), there will be a rubber boot over the top of the end of the MC where the shaft goes in. Remove the boot, it has an inner ring that slides up and down the shaft. Inside of where that boot was around the inside of the MC where the shaft goes in is where the circlip is. You need good needle nose pliers or circlip pliers to get it out. Then the whole thing will come apart. If you've gotten this far then buy the correct MC repair kit which will have new rubbers etc and redo the whole thing. Be wary which way the parts come out, particularly which way the rubber plunger seal inside the piston itself goes. Good luck! |

Yeah, you will need to take the pin out which connects the master cylinder pushrod to the pedal, and then unbolt the mastercylinder from the car from inside the engine bay. |

Nar it's really easy, harder than it sounds. Describing it is far harder than doing it! |

Sorry to jumpin on the thread.. I started to pull my tin pots apart so I can overhaul them,.,.... Managed to remove the dust cover, the C ring and then remove the plunger... however the dished Stopwasher seems to be stuck in the units.... have sprayed with Lubricant and tapped the bottom of the unit on a lump of wood however it wont budge... either there aint one in there or it is jamned or I am missing something.... Any Ideas? Kevin |

So it sounds like you removed the pushrod but the piston is still stuck yea? Try sealing the holes with a rag as you blow compressed air into the top of the cylinder. Make sure you have drained all the fluid out though, or you might just spray it everywhere, and wrap a rag around the cylinder so when the piston shoots out the rag catches it. |

if you havent got an air compressor a thin bit of wire and try and poke it out from the top. |

Tried the Compressor, didnt work, sprayed the unit all over with Inox..(like WD40 but better), came out a treat... Bore and piston look good.. Will look at putting a refurb kit in,... Where can I grab those from? |
