So i'm installing some Hyundai Getz seats into the mini...

they come with really nice buckles mounted to the seat frame.... these seats are pushing width in the mini so i don't think i'll have room for retractables...

is it going to be possible to get some aftermarket static belts that fit the Hyundai buckles?

May not be a good idea, sorry to say. The seat mounting points will need to be carfully considered as the seat belt forces (in an accident) will now be going thought the seat frame and in to it's mounts, which the Mini was never set up for.

I'm with GT mowog on this one. The seat mounts were only ever made to take the force of the seat - the force from the person in the seat is taken by the belt. If the belt's attached to the seat, I'd expect the seat to tear holes in the floorpan in an accident.

My brother crashed our parents ute; we hit a rockface backwards. The back of the seats were bolted to the A-frame, to take the force in a fowards crash. Since we were going backwards, the front mounts (which were bolted to a bracket that was welded to the floor) tore straight out of the floorpan. I'd expect the same to happen if the belt is attached to the seat.

My retractable seat belts are inside the rear bins of my mini. I'm assuming your mini is an early round nose like mine.
Your local seat belt fitting mob or an engineer should be able to do the job no worries.
In my case the engineer got 2 plates of steel the same size to meet legal requirements, drilled a hole in the center of each one to fit the seat belt bolt through and welded the nut to the other side of the plate. He then used a plasma cutter to make a hole in the sill inside the rear bins so the nut could be fitted in this hole and the plate welded over the sill, very similar to how the later Clubmans are. The other end of the belt was bolted to the standard position in the sill at the back of the door.

i'd go to a wrecker and get the matching belts etc out of a getz to fit your seats.

if your seats are bolted in properly (getz seats wont fit the std brackets)
then it should be fine.

like was mentioned by kennomini mount the retractable reel in the rear quarter bins like leyland minis.

it will probably end up being a lot safer than the std seat setup which isnt bolted down at the rear.

i think it's illegal for a wrecker to sell belts...

i agree the new mounts will be safer than pivoting seats. as for the floor tearing etc etc,

my new 3mm seat frame mounts will be bolted through the floor with plates underneath, just like you bolt belts through, i don't see any part of the floor being stronger than the other so the force from the belt on the chair will still be transmitted through the floor same as old style belt mounts....

going to have to visit willshire trimmers i think....
