Early 850 (8AM) engines had a spring type clutch and a small tail crank, the later engines (8Y) had the diaphragm type clutch and the larger tail on the crank. It sounds like you are trying to replace a large tail crank with a small tail crank, if you do that you will have to use the spring clutch. You would be better off finding a large tail crank, there not that rare.
The transfur housing without the "blocked off" spout is common to early 850 engines, the later Aussie made 8Y engines used the "spout type.
