| Post subject: | machining flywheel and backing plate? |
Hey guys im in the process of replacing my clutch and have been advised to machine the flywheel and backing plate. why is this done and is it realy needed? Also what type of clutch should i use as i have only seen cooper s kits are there any others to consider, its for a 998? thanks nick |

thanks Nick 1. If the flywheel and backing plate are scored, they do need machining flat. Then the clutch assembly needs the diaphragm spring height checked- see http://www.minimania.com/web/DisplayID/ ... ticleV.cfm 2. Clutches for a 998, 1098 and Cooper S are the same except for the diaphragm spring pressure. The 998/1098 diaphragms' torque capacity were marginal at best, these days most people fit the S one instead. See the explanation in the link above. |
