Don't forget we lost Mini-Tech as well.

Does that only leave Newport and MiniSport?

There's still Blair Athol Auto Parts/Wreckers I believe. They have a showroom with lots of Mini parts, and do mechanical work on them too. Been in business for decades now and used to run speedway Minis (painted pink). On Churchill Rd at Kilburn.

Bugger. Anyone know if Adrian is selling the business or packing it all up and burying it? Will be a shame not to see the familiar yard full of Minis and Morris Minors when you drive down fullarton road anymore!

I've had some good results with Motorlab on Duthy Street in Malvern - Tom (the owner) used to race Minis way back when and his office noticeboard is littered with photos of race minis. Gets a big smile on his face everytime I take the car in there. Other than Motorlab, Mini King, Minisport and Newport I don't know of any others out there - so are we really down to 3-4?

Sorry - Blair Athol Auto Parts is also known as Mini King Auto Parts - same name but different to Mini King NSW

Oh okay...now I understand.
I knew there was one in NSW, but didn't know the one in Blair Athol was called Mini King Auto Parts as well.

Re SA Mini King - it's a family business and been there for about 40 years. I think it used to be the SA branch for Mini Kingdom at one time.

Re Motorlab - actually it was Tom Galbraith's wife who did most of the competing in the Motorlab Mini after Tom’s eyesight caused him problems. I’ve got a recollection that it may have been a 1098. There used to be a 1100 Mini Improved Production racing class back then. Racing Car News has a photo of the wife driving the Mini c1969 at Malalla.

Motorlab were one of the few places in the late ‘60s that had a dyno (Maxwell was the other). I had a Mk1 Cooper S engine rebuilt by them in 1970 for the then pricely sum of $400. It was a standard 1275 with twin SUs and pulled 106 mph on a trip to Melbourne (enough to put your licence on ice for years these days but quite normal then). So yes Motorlab do know a bit about Minis. So too do Kent Town Auto tune but I wouldn’t recommend them.

Tilbrooks up at Hampstead were another local Mini mechanical specialist/supplier but they got out about 10 years ago now, no longer able to justify concentrating on a marque that had been out of production locally since 1978.

I’m not surprised Mini Mania is going – it’s a prime corner location near one of the busiest intersections in the City so a very desirable and valuable site. Is Adrian moving elsewhere or closing the business altogether?

It's not nice when things like this happen

I used to work on The Parade at Pulse automotive, we were forced to move by a hike in property rent, now the place is empty with a Knight Frank sign out the front.
My bet is one of those signs will pop up like so many other places around there :x
