My drivers side door is slightly damaged after it was tipped on its side on the side walk several years ago by some pranksters. Dent is located around the external door handle.
I am not mechanically minded but I am not not totally hopeless. Tried to knock it out myself but with no luck. This weekend, went to a panel beater and he quoted $400 (with primer) and $480 (with high fill).
This is way out of my limited budget.
Tried calling around but no one stocks drivers side doors for a Mk 1.
Appreciate suggestions.

Regards
marc

Northern Mini parts in Melbourne had heaps of doors, I'd check with them.
Or enquire through Mini Spares Padstow (same company now).

Nothing in Padstow. Spoke to them last week. Also called Ermington and Brookvale. Nothing. What options would I have from here? A reskin?

Ask Padstow if NMP have any in Melbourne...
RH ones are scarcer than LH.

Yes you can still get skins for 850 doors, they do need a bit of a mod to fit a windup door though.

The price you where quoted for repair is pretty fair IMO, however if you want another door, try John at Mini King.

depends on the size and position of the dent i suppose. you could get the dent doctor out to your house, get an email for a local dent doctor and send them a photo of the dent.

he will be able to give you an average quote from the photo.

we used to get them to do slightly damaged cars when i work for mercedes.

they charged us $75 a dent, but thats at a insider rate, might be $150 bux.

i google up these guys http://www.dingking.com.au/

So, can you paint?

Just wondering since you got quotes on it being done to primer stage.

And I honestly don't think you would be able to buy a door in good enough condition and get it painted to match the rest of your car for less than that money either...
For example, if you did buy a door, a panel shop is going to ask a lot more than that to paint it...

Unless you can panel and paint it yourself, thats reasonable enough... My shop charges about that money too per panel.

So shop around look at your options, but any cheaper than that and I recon you are going to end up with bigger issues than just a dint.

Of the door or the car? The door looks like crap and removed off the car. The car is being stripped ready for primer. Waiting for the weather to stop raining and warm up a little before I start. Heard primer holds moisture.

The door. Just so we get an idea of how bad it is.

Too expensive to get it done by a panel beater, but found someone with a second hand one. Picked it up today. Just the bare shell. No rust. :)
