Post subject: | Body number - what to do? |
I have just fitted a new round nose front to my Clubman, and I now have a dillema. ![]() And No I am not looking for smart arse comments. ![]() The round nose radiator panel came off a Mini K body which was rusted beyond repair, but all of the other guards and panels are new. The car therefore now has a Mini K body number. but the rego papers for the car say it is a Clubman. Should I refit the original number to the radiator panel, plus the ID plate which should make the registaration process easier as I have the original rego papers and purchase receipt or should I leave the Mini K body number for which I have the ID plate but no rego papers or receipt for the body or what other options do the community suggest? |

I am no expert on this, but my opinion would be that the car should be fitted and or registered with the clubman number. However I guess that you could argue that you built the car up from the mini K shroud. |

I'm sorta with ryan. I'm no expert either (far from it), but I see it as being a clubby with a roundie front end! For arguments sake, just refer to it as a modified clubby! ![]() |

Some people would just call it a cooper s! ![]() By law you are required to keep the Clubman id as it is now a Clubman mini with Morris front panels! |

If you replace a clubby front do you need a engineers report as you've changed the car but if you use the k front you're rebirthing or reshelling between a rock and a hard place |

I do know of a restored Cooper S (was bent in the LF) that got a brand new rad shroud panel made and fitted, with its original numbers stamped on. Looked kosher to me... |

speak to your transport authority, you havent broken the law...... yet. you have done a legit thing in replacing the front end, they will advise you of the legal responsibilities. Just tell them the truth, provide them with both numbers and your previous rego papers, being honest, they will be able to advise you correctly. [EDIT] id take a guess and say their going to make you use your registered numbers. |

Leave it as it was as you already have previous rego papers. If you are sent for an identity check take all your associated papers and explain what you have done to the Inspectors. At the end of the day its still a Clubman. |

Thank you all for your replies and your comments have reinforced the way I was thinking. After all it is 90% Cubman and 10% Cooper S. ![]() ![]() |

Sorry, but you have made me laugh Drexxle ![]() ![]() I reckon, if there is any doubt, they will ignore all the numbers on the car, make you get it inspected, maybe question the engineering of your repairs, charge you for the above and make you stamp a big ugly number somewhere you don't want it, or in fact get someone else to do so! Yes this will be the right thing to do, but it will make a mess of what is looking like an excellent job. I know of a 69 Cooper S where the owner did not know what he had, to get it registered the RTA ground a big section of his paint off the inner guard and roughly stamped a number on ther, charged him for the process and now the cars ID is the new number. He has tried to sell the car, but now no one thinks it is an S ![]() USe the clubby number, it's an LS and the identity needs retaining! |

Post subject: | clubby or roundy? |
Hiya, Sideways hijack.... This car has an early clubby number, clubby engine, clubby dash etc. Is listed as 68, and has roundy doors and rear lights. No pic of engine bay. What’s the go? Was it a clubby with a roundy persuasion, or a roundy that likes to cross dress as a clubby on the inside....? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Morris-Mini-1968-/270634721324?pt=AU_Cars&hash=item3f0316202c cheers! jon |
