| Post subject: | Workshop manual showing listed timeframes for jobs |
Does anyone happen to have (or know what the the manual was called) that shows how long BMC expected different procedures to take. For instance removal of engine - 4hrs (just made that up). Installation of engine - 6hrs etc How in detail does this book go ? Does it have expected time frames for even little jobs like changing brake pads ,etc |

The SAA (Service Station Association) did publish such manuals. BMC did also publish times, I have some of those for body repair, but not mechanic stuff. BTW the SAA quoted sometimes silly times, like 14 hours to R & R (Remove and Replace) the engine / gearbox assembly  and on the other end of the spectrum 15 minutes to R & R a Brake Master Cylinder, which included bleeding them. I'd like to see that 
Generally though it wasn't too bad. |

I have a copy of AKD 7301, which is the BLMC Schedule of Repair Times for Transverse Engined Vehicles, including the Mini. It's dated 1969 and covers all mechanical and body work (over 100 pages). Interestingly it's marked Confidential to Distributors and Dealers. Is there something in particular you are after? |

Some examples in AKD 7301 for a Cooper S (equivalent Mini saloon time in brackets): Power unit - complete assembly - replace : 6.35 hours (4.00 hrs) Power unit - complete with subframe - replace : 7.50 hours (6.30 hrs) Engine only - fit replacement, change over ancillary equipment, clean and adjust carburettor and distributor : 9.75 hours (6.35 hrs) Oil pump - replace (incl clutch overhaul) : 7.70 hours (5.35 hrs) Disc - replace set of pads : 1.60 hours Bleed and adjust brakes : 0.90 hours Tune engine - includes cleaning and adjusting rockers, plugs, points, ignition timing by stroboscope, pump filter, carburettors and road test : 2.95 hours |

Hiya, Info from the Morris 1100 schedule - AKD 3321A. A Morris 1100 must be a complex beast, as an engine, gearbox (less subframe) remove and refit takes 5 hrs 45 mins. Much longer than a normal mini 
With subframe it is 8 hrs. Conversely, to replace the brake pads on the front discs only takes 45 minutes (they call them brake blocks?)

Maybe the rates are pegged against the value of the car. I suppose that they are not actual time, they are more like how much can we rob the poor sucker this time time.
With a more expensive car they can charge more time to make more money. Could explain the Cooper S brakes too.

ive got taking a mini motor out down to about 30 mins. crack a ball joint and undo a few bolts and lift the sucker straight out. |

its all in the original passport to service booklet that came with the cars from new ,those times quouted in my experiance would be ok on a newish car as per factory but on an old car thats been messed with wrong or missing parts :roll: those repair times could as much as double :o in some cases with all the mucking about you have to go through to get it right ,hope this helps :o |
