Hi this has probably been asked before but couldn't find it in the search but what gemini starter do i need the one i had here to put in was from a rb gemini (front wheel drive)and it's not the same size as the hole in the bellhousing so i am thinking i should return it and swap it for a earlier one from a rear wheel drive?? any help please

As you have found the RB one is no good. You just need one from any RWD Gemini. (except the diesel ones.)

TE or TF I think were the model designations for the later RWD (more squarer looking cars). I'm guessing the earlier; smaller shape may well fit too, but mine came off a TE definitely.

Heritage MG sells new `Gemini pattern' pre-engaged ones, they are $163.
These bolt straight on, no mods needed- they have been made with the mounting holes slotted to fit.

[edit] they look like this-

Dumb question but what's the benefit of one of these over the standard unit?

Reduced size, cranking capacity?

Cheers.

1. More cranking torque.
2. Are pre-engaged, so they don't chew your ring gear up.
3. They mesh in from the front, so still work OK if your ring gear teeth have damage from the Lucas bendix throwing in at the same place (on the other side).

Disadvantage- will not fit with a Cooper S oil cooler in the usual place.

Anything from a G161Z/G1800Z or G200Z would be all the same I would assume.

Post subject:  Pre Engage starter

I only have one left Gemini Starter. If any one needs a pre engage type starter that will fit even with an Oil Cooler mounted in front you will need one of my special Planetary geared starters. These can start any size Motor with ease and they are much lighter than original Lucas or Gemini startes too.
