Post subject: | slow wiper motor means? |
Hey everyone, I have a quick question that the brains trust will hopefully know the answer to ![]() I have almost finished putting my rover column and rover wiper motor into my clubman van. My question is this. The wiper motor works from the column stalk and I have intermittent, slow and fast. The problem I have is that the motor runs really slowly. What does this usually signify? I have it earthed from the body of the wiper motor and also from the black wire coming out the back. I think this is correct but wanted to see what you all think. I think now that maybe the body this is wrong as all the bracketing is covered in rubber to stop this. Cheers David |

Hey Guys, Thanks for your advice. I removed the earth from the body of the wiper motor to the body of the van but the wiper motor is still slow. The motor iin't connected to the tube or wheel boxes so wipers and stuff are not attached either. Sorry, should have mentioned this before. I did a voltage test on the wiper motor and it is getting just over 11 volts but my battery is fully charged. Would this have something to do with it? When I bench tested it she was a lot faster but then it was the only thing on the battery so maybe that is it... not sure. Thanks again in advance guys (and Girls) Cheers David |

thanks Max. This one is a brand new shiny rover one and I have spent ages getting it in the car with the rover column. IT WILL WORK!!!! Ahhhh!!! ![]() |

Are you testing it with the engine running? I've seen slow electric windows caused by this. Also, to isolate a possible voltage drop across the switch, jump power from the start solenoid posts to a wire that becomes live when you turn it on, if it speeds up there will likely be a switch problem. |

hey Tombo, Nah without engine running. will try that tonight. I think it is the dodgy quick connectors I got. I got them off the internet and they are dodgy looking. Thought I would give them a go but I will get some better ones. Will test that solenoid thing you mentioned and will voltage at the column. Cheers David |

I know it is a bit late to respond but; I did have the very same issue before slow wiper then gets faster. I ended up changing the ignition connection( round black bit behind the ignition barrel) and now fast and steady at all time from start. I tought it might help to your problem. |
