I have a severely bent front sub frame.

could i trouble some to take some pics of a bare sub for me.

top shot, and a side shot of the tower would be great.

ive been bashing it straight with a BFH, but would be nice to eye off a straight one.

and i almost took my middle finger off :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: lucky i didnt because i gave it the finger afterwords.

but seriously, my towers are flared out, and i can see from yours where my bends are, thanks. Ive had a go at flattening them out, and looking at yours i need to do some more bashing.

i have also noticed one thing while measuring a few things.

van trumpets are shorter than sedan ones. my spare trumpets, which are supposed to be for the S are 4-5mm taller, and from what ive been told 1mm at the trumpet can give you 10mm extra height at the arches.

now i know why the bloody thing rides to high. now i have to take that bloody top arm off again, and they are a pain in the ass.

It's generally accepted that 1mm at the front trumpet gives 3mm height change, 1mm at the rear trumpet gives 5mm height change.
This for a sedan, the back of a van is lighter so it may be a little different there.

in the rear i used the trumpets that were already in the van and the donuts that were already there, cleaned up everything, and its riding the height thats expected.

in the front, the donuts were half the height crushed, the towers were flared out and the trumpets were cracked.

i put second hand donuts in, and the sedan trumpets, ive flattened out the towers and its riding WAY to high. so im thinking hi-los in the front will fix that issue.

from what ive noticed, the trumpets in the rear of the van are longer and the trumpets in the front are shorter.

Yes van rear trumpets are longer. But AFAIK all the fronts are same, except the early welded steel ones may be different.
Sure yours haven't been cut in the past? Very common mod back then.. :P

Considering the condition that you describe it to be in, I would recommend replacing it. You might be able to bash it straight, by eye, but unless you can measure it how can you be sure that the ride hight will be correct and the front end geometry will be near to being right?

i would replace it, but if i was to send all that stuff to Alice the car would cost me twice as much. Ive bashed it, put it back in and plan to put the hi-los in. Trying to get minimal cost to rego the thing, and then slowly fix it back up, same as i did the sedan.

ill take a photo of the difference in the trumpets. they may have been cut short, but judging how high its sitting now i doubt they have been cut. And standing them next to each other, the old van ones are definately shorter.
